Going International

When we decided to go on this adventure to India, we knew we wanted to stop somewhere for a few days to break up the trip. Amsterdam seemed like the perfect place.  It began with an early morning drive to LAX where Nippon dropped the kids and I off at the Southwest terminal to meet up with my nephew Joram who would be traveling with us across the planet. Nippon dropped off the car and then met us at Tom Bradley International Terminal where we boarded our KLM flight that would take us to our half way mark of Amsterdam. Ready, set, go!

Our flight attendant was lovely and kept the kids entertained with gifts and snacks. They all did great.... well, except Afton had a bit of air sickness and at this point was refusing to take any Dramamine. (By the end of the trip he was a total pro at puking and not getting it anywhere, and eventually started taking the pills every-once-in-a-while.) 10 hours and 40 minutes later, we arrived at Schipol International Airport in Amsterdam. It was cold.

After picking up our luggage, we promptly sat down to stuff our faces with waffles and maple syrup.

Afton was ready for a bed to sleep in.

Rowan was just happy to be on the ground.

Nippon picked an lovely two bedroom hotel apartment for us to stay in. The bathrooms had these lovely Dutch themed tiles in the bathroom. It was so nice to have a kitchen, dinning room, and living space to go with the two bedrooms and two bathrooms. the kids loved having their own space, and I love having the ability to cook something at "home" rather than having to go out to eat for every meal. I used a microwave toaster oven for the first time, and the kids enjoyed the frozen pizza it toasted so much they made me go back and get another one.

This is a view from our apartment of the train station. It was a very short ride, just one stop, to the city centre. Did I mention it was cold?
